Alcohol Kicks Soap's Butt
Not sure how I got on Ebsco's Nursing Reference Center newsletter list but this nugget in their latest about "Hand Hygiene" caught my eye:
... We learned that using soap and water may have been a "best practice," but that it wasn't an evidence-based solution to curtailing the spread of microorganisms....
Using alcohol-based hand rubs is far more effective than hand washing for removing bacteria, viruses, fungi, and multiple drug resistant microorganisms from the skin. Moreover, alcohol-based products can be used anywhere by dispenser, eliminating the need for water and a mechanism for drying hands.
What's more, it tastes better!
